The Witcher
The Witcher is a dark fantasy franchise created by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, originating with short stories published in the 1980s and novels in the 1990s. Set on the Continent, a war-torn land inhabited by humans, elves, dwarves, and monsters, the series follows Geralt of Rivia, a mutant monster hunter known as a Witcher. The franchise explores themes of moral ambiguity, prejudice, destiny, the lesser evil, and found family through Geralt's relationships with sorceress Yennefer and his adopted daughter Ciri. The franchise expanded internationally through CD Projekt Red's critically acclaimed video game trilogy (2007-2015), Netflix's live-action series (2019-present), and animated films. The books, games, and Netflix series exist as separate but connected universes, all rooted in Sapkowski's original work.
