Warhammer 40,000
Warhammer 40,000 (also known as Warhammer 40K or simply 40K) is a grimdark science fantasy franchise created by Games Workshop in 1987. Set in the far future of the 41st millennium, humanity is locked in eternal war against aliens, daemons, and heretics under the decaying Imperium of Man, ruled by the God-Emperor entombed on the Golden Throne. The franchise originated as a tabletop miniature wargame and has expanded into novels (over 400 titles from Black Library), video games (55+ titles), and other media. Central themes include the corruption of absolute power, religious fanaticism, the futility of war, and the grim reality that in the darkness of the far future, there is only war. The Horus Heresy series, set 10,000 years before the main timeline, details the civil war that shattered the Imperium.
